Known for putting the dish in traditional, Belle Monroe and her
Brewglass Boys have been surprising Bay Area bluegrass, Americana
and alternative country audiences for the past 6 years with their
sparkling vocals, finely tuned arrangements, inventive delivery
and blazing instrumental skills. Belle and the Boys have wowed crowds
at the San Francisco Bluegrass and Old Time Festival every year
since 2001 as well as the Brookdale Bluegrass Festival and the Hardly
Strictly Bluegrass in Golden Gate Park. The band also regularly
plays at Bay Area bluegrass venues such as Slim's, the Sweetwater,
the Plough & Stars, the Hotel Utah, Iron Springs Pub, the Atlas
Cafe and recently at the Mystic Theater in Petaluma. In July of
2006 the Brewglass Boys made it to the finals in the Rockygrass
Bluegrass Festival Band Competition and took 3rd place.
Belle Monroe has been winning fans around the world with her strong,
bluesy bluegrass and swing vocal style for the last fifteen years.
A veteran of the San Francisco folk, swing and roots music scenes,
Belle rounded up a bunch of her favorite local pickers to play some
old bluegrass standards and imbibe a brew or two...the the Brewglass
Boys were born. Singer and mandolinist Ted Silverman, along with
Tom Drohan on the bass and Belle on guitar form the core rhythm
section. The incendiary steel guitar of Rick Hendricks adds fire
and flash to the music. Jordan Klein picks a hot 5-string banjo
and Brewglass "Boy" DIana Greenberg rounds out the band
on fiddle. Overlaying it all are the sweet and sometimes raunchy
vocal harmonies of the Belle, Ted and Jordan trio that make Brewglass
what it is. The Brewglass Boys deliver traditional and familiar
songs alongside obscure selections you'd never expect a bluegrass
outfit to attempt. If you like hard-driving bluegrass along with
wacky humor, positive energy and heartfelt showmanship, then Belle
Monroe & the Brewglass Boys will be just your pint of brew.
