The Blank Tapes was dreamed up by Matt Adams a long, long time ago. Two separate bands, one in San Francisco and one in Orange County, both play as The Blank Tapes. Aside from those main two, there have been quite a few Blank Tapes back-up bands (mostly just drummers) that have sprouted up here and there across the country.

On the albums, Matt writes, records and plays all the instruments himself. His latest, "Daydreams", contains 25 songs recorded on an old 8-track cassette tape recorder. SF's KUSF, LA's Indie 103.1, KXLU, KCRW, Davis's KDVS, Portland's KPSU and even NPR are all big supporters and have had The Blank Tapes play live on their stations. In addition, The Blank Tapes have toured across the country, as well as performing on the west coast, the NY area, and at SXSW.
