Formed 1991 in San Francisco by Kevin Carnes aka Professor Borris
Carnes, drums/sampler (Beatnigs, UAF), David Boyce aka Black Edgar
Kenyatta, tenor/soprano saxophone, efx, synth, spoken word, and
Kirk Peterson, aka the Angel of Redemption or simply the Redeemer,
electric bass. The Fellinis play an energetic, soulful, aggressive
style of post modern improvised/composed jazzical sound that is
informed by dub, afro beat, abstract funk, drumnbass, hardcore/psych/prog
rock and film soundtracks ( the darker and more atmospheric the
better). The group has been profiled on NPR and BET in the US and
on Radio Nova in France. They've toured both coasts, traveled to
Spain to perform at the San Sebastian International Jazz Festival
and British Columbia for the du Maurier festival, done music for
MTV's Liquid Television, ran a non-profit called Broundation that
gave to Bay Area charitable organizations, and recently appeared
at the Stern Grove Festival in San Francisco in support of the Funk
Bros. The group has performed for the grand opening of the Virgin
Mega Store and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts both in San Francisco.
They have toured with Ben Harper and performed with many greats
such as The Last Poets, Meshell Ndegeocello, Gil Scott-Heron, Living
Colour, Zakir Hussain, Bernie Worrell, Prince Lasha, George Clinton,
Mystic Journeymen, Erykah Badu, the Roots, Mos Def, Jimmy Smith,
Les Claypool, Buckethead, Aceyalone, Mikah 9, Antibalas, Blackalicious,
General Public, Ravi Coltrane, Eric McFadden, 311 and more. Broun
Fellinis' new record 'December' is available now on iTunes.
