Mark Matos started Campo Bravo around 2003. He had just moved
to Tucson after some years of adventure and transiency with hopes
of home-making and band-beginnings. It was there that he came across
the wonderous Golden Boots who offered a 4-track and a rhythm section,
and Campo Bravo was born a premature but celebratory birth. The
idea from the beginning was to form a world wide collective that
he could pick and pull from to play and record his songs, a revolving
congregation of acid gospel yelpers and wild eyed bowers, pickers
and pluckers. The collection of friends and talent is over 40 strong
and includes Nik Freitas, members of the Golden Boots, Vicki Brown
(Jesse Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter), Benny the Kid, Steven Spar,
Chris Adolf (Love Letter Band), Anthony Boruch, Brian Green, and
many other wonderful folks. Mark Matos writes the words, sings the
songs (as best he can), plays guitar and whatever happens to be
laying around the studio, and always tries to play like the world
is exploding.
